Lactose intolerance is a condition in which people have symptoms due to the decreased ability to digest lactose, a sugar found in milk products. Those affected vary in the amount of lactose they can tolerate before symptoms develop. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, gas, and nausea, and typically start between one half and two hours after drinking milk or eating milk products. Lactose intolerance is due to the lack of enzyme lactase in the small intestines to break lactose down into glucose and galactose. Diagnosis may be confirmed if symptoms resolve following eliminating lactose from the diet.
Even those who smoke may dislike the lingering smell. At best, cigarette smoke can be unpleasant and can damage furniture and walls. At worst, it can irritate the lungs and cause cancer. If you or a loved one are unable to kick the habit, there are some ways to exhaust cigarette smoke from your bedroom and prevent at least some of it from reaching the rest of your home. Use an ordinary box fan to push smoke from your room. You'll need to turn it around so air is pushed out of your bedroom, rather than pulled into it.
The rose is the national flower of England, a usage dating back to the English civil wars of the fifteenth century -- later called Wars of the Roses -- in which a red rose represented the House of Lancaster, and a white rose represented the House of York. The Tudor dynasty created the Tudor rose, which united both the white and the red roses, a symbolism dramatized by Shakespeare in his play Richard III. The traditional ballad "The Rose of England" recounts the seizure of the crown by Earl of Richmond -- who became Henry VII of England, the founder the Tudor dynasty -- using the "red rose" as an allegory for Henry. The England national rugby union team and Rugby Football Union adopted the red rose as their symbol in 1871, and the rose has appeared on players' kit ever since.
The Pomeranian is a breed of dog of the Spitz type that is named for the Pomerania region in Germany and Poland in Central Europe. Classed as a toy dog breed because of its small size, the Pomeranian is descended from the larger Spitz type dogs, specifically the German Spitz. Queen Victoria owned a particularly small Pomeranian and consequently the smaller variety became universally popular. Overall, the Pomeranian is a sturdy, healthy dog with the most common health issues are luxating patella and tracheal collapse. As of 2013, in terms of registration figures, since at least 1998, the breed has ranked among the top twenty most popular breeds in the USA, and the current fashion for small dogs has increased their popularity worldwide.
