And of course near and dear to my heart, George A. Romero, who launched the zombie film genre with his 1968 “Night of the Living Dead,” died Sunday at the age of 77, following a brief battle with lung cancer. Romero died while listening to the score of one of his favorite films, The Quiet Man, with his wife, Suzanne Desrocher Romero, and daughter, Tina Romero, at his side. Made in Pittsburgh on a budget of $114,000, Night of the Living Dead made $30 million and while snubbed by the mainstream press, became a smash hit among horror aficionados and gore lovers. Romero worked on several other projects to little box office success before the first "Living Dead" sequel (and my personal favorite) "Dawn of the Dead" debuted in 1979 to great fanfare and critical acclaim. And if are so inclined, here's a better version with subtitles.

Contrary to its recent misuse as a euphemism for audacity or courage, to have "brass balls" actually means to drive a hard bargain and to refuse to sell for less than what you ask for. The term dates back to the days when pawn shop brokers would traditionally hang three brass balls outside their shop doors to indicate their services. Ingredients are a mix of American-grown and imported hops and a combination of malt and corn. At a slightly lower price point than flagship brand Budweiser, it serves as Anheuser-Busch's second most popular brand.

Mayflies are aquatic insects belonging to the order Ephemeroptera. Mayflies are relatively primitive insects and exhibit a number of ancestral traits that were probably present in the first flying insects, such as long tails and wings that do not fold flat over the abdomen. Mayflies hatch from spring to autumn in enormous numbers, some hatchings large enough attract tourists. During the weekend of June 13–14, 2015, a large swarm of mayflies caused several vehicular accidents on the Columbia–Wrightsville Bridge, carrying Pennsylvania Route 462 across the Susquehanna River between Columbia and Wrightsville, Pennsylvania. The bridge had to be closed to traffic twice during that period due to impaired visibility and obstructions posed by piles of dead insects. Adult mayflies are collected and eaten in many parts of China and Japan.
